Restore Your Smile with Complete Dentures
If most or all of your teeth are missing, due to an accident, disease, or poor oral health, your dentist may suggest complete dentures as a restoration option. Often referred to as “false teeth”, complete dentures are in fact artificial teeth that are constructed to replace all of a patient’s natural teeth. Complete dentures cover the residual ridge of the gums, as well as the maxilla or hard palate. Since they are held in place by forming a seal with the gums, they are removable.
In order to create complete dentures that fit your mouth perfectly, this restoration is usually completed over multiple dental appointments. First, an accurate impression of your mouth must be made, in order to form a custom record base. Once the record base, which is used to establish the relationship between your upper and lower jaws, is adjusted to fit perfectly in your mouth, it is sent to the lab to have teeth added. With teeth added, the record base is trial fitted and adjusted; in some cases, additional processing may be required at the dental lab, after which your final denture is placed in your mouth and any final adjustments are made.
