When it comes to cavities, many of us think that fillings are the only solution, but there is in fact another approach: dental inlays. An inlay is an extremely durable alternative to amalgam and composite fillings, and even to dental crowns, used to restore a tooth’s biting surface when it becomes damaged. Inlays are custom-made, and inserted into your tooth, substituting the part of the tooth that has been lost due to decay, wear, or other methods of damage, making them stronger and longer-lasting than fillings.

Giving your tooth 90% of its original strength, a dental inlay can be made of porcelain or gold. Centre Dentaire Limbour offers both traditional dental inlays, and CEREC® single-visit inlays using IPS e.max® lithium disilicate ceramic.

Traditionally, a dental restoration with dental inlays includes two appointments with your dental team. During the first appointment, your dentist will take an impression after preparing the defective tooth, which is then sent to the lab. A temporary composite is fitted and placed until the next appointment. During your second appointment, the inlay that was expertly prepared by the lab is placed and bonded to your tooth.

CEREC® Single-Visit Inlays

With the use of CEREC®, a computer-assisted restorative technique, our dentists are able to create a custom-made inlay in just one appointment! This CAD/CAM technology, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, allows our dental team to quickly restore a damaged tooth using high-quality IPS e.max® lithium disilicate ceramic.

After preparing the defective tooth, your dentist will take an impression with the CEREC digital camera. The inlay is then designed and built using CEREC technology, and is then bonded to the prepared tooth. This precise, efficient process allows for the creation of a unique restoration that fits perfectly, and closely resembles your natural tooth enamel in terms of solidity and durability in just one visit.
